Making a Difference Where We Live and Work

We are proud of our 20+ year history of giving back, and the commitment of our people to make a positive impact in our communities.

We focus our time and resources on the areas that matter most to our employees and align to our corporate values.

Focus Areas

Community Resilience

We help to create strong, healthy communities for all where we live and work through a wide range of causes and organizations our employees care about.

Financial Literacy

We support access to education that empowers youth and adults to build foundational financial skills, as well as gain exposure to the possibilities of a career in finance.

EDI in Our Industry

We champion initiatives, programs, and opportunities that accelerate collective action to address the existence of systemic racism, inequalities, and discrimination in our industry.

Initiatives From Our Portfolio

As an active, global investor, we support our portfolio companies in their commitments to making a difference in their local communities, in British Columbia and around the world.

Community Highlights

Our commitment manifests in many ways — from each employee receiving paid time off each year to volunteer for causes they care about, to employee-led committees and fundraising initiatives.

  • Fundraising for Causes We Care About

In 2025, BCI’s public markets team raised over $400,000 for Island Kids Cancer Association (IKCA) through its annual charity golf tournament.

The team hosted over 100 golfers at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria, B.C. IKCA helps families on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands navigate the life-changing diagnosis of childhood cancer, including providing access to resources like financial assistance and mental health support.

  • Celebrating National Volunteer Week

During National Volunteer Week 2024, over 70 BCIers dedicated over 200 hours to volunteering in their communities.

Initiatives included helping with upgrades at Victoria Women’s Transition House, making and packing 108 lunches for the Victoria Cool Aid Society Downtown Community Centre, preparing Camp Shawnigan for Easter Seals B.C. & Yukon summer programs, and organizing food and hygiene items at The Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

  • Celebrating 2,300+ Volunteer Hours

In April 2024, BCI set an ambitious goal to increase our community impact by challenging employees to volunteer 2,000 hours in just one year – more than doubling the 860 hours from the previous year. Thanks to more than 380 BCIers, we surpassed our goal contributing over 2,300 hours, supporting nearly 100 non-profits and causes, and making a meaningful difference in the communities where we live and work across our global offices.

  • Bringing the Classroom to the Boardroom

BCI’s Financial Literacy Committee welcomed over 25 high school students to our Victoria office for our fourth annual Youth Financial Literacy Day in partnership with JA British Columbia.

BCI volunteers delivered a custom curriculum on goal setting, budgeting, and investing to help students prepare for the future. This builds on three successful years, previously hosting an all-girls class, Indigenous youth, and high school students.

  • Supporting Indigenous Financial Literacy

BCI supports JA British Columbia’s delivery of culturally appropriate, accessible programs for Indigenous youth across the province.

Since 2022, BCI has sponsored JA British Columbia Programs for Indigenous Learners, helping provide inclusive educational programs focused on work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial skills, delivered by Indigenous volunteers.

  • Going the Extra Mile

In October 2024, BCI employees from our New York office laced up their sneakers for the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research in Central Park.

The five-kilometre run, organized by the Canadian Association of New York, raises awareness and funds for cancer research at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in honour of Terry Fox.

  • Recognizing the Generosity of Our Employees

BCI employees have been raising awareness and supporting our local community needs for more than two decades, contributing over $1.36 million for the United Way since 2000.

In 2024, BCI earned the United Way Spirit Award, recognizing our exceptional employee fundraising results and sustained community leadership.

Grassroots Initiatives

We are fortunate to have employees who give their time and talent to organize opportunities to give back across the corporation. BCI has employee-led internal committees focused on community resilience and financial literacy.

Financial Literacy Committee

Our Financial Literacy Committee focuses on breaking down barriers to finance careers through youth education. BCI is the largest source of corporate volunteers for JA British Columbia (JABC), a non-profit providing free, hands-on education in work readiness, financial health, and entrepreneurship. Since 2014, 100+ BCI employees have delivered 160+ JABC programs, empowering over 4,500 students.

BCI is a major sponsor of JABC’s More Than Money program, which teaches money management, personal banking and credit, and business planning to grade 4 and 5 students.

United Way Campaign Committee

Since 2000, BCI employees have organized an annual giving campaign, raising awareness of the needs in our communities, and raising over $1.36 million for the United Way of Southern Vancouver Island (UWSVI). These donations have helped to reduce food insecurity, supply meals and companionship to isolated seniors, assist those facing mental health challenges, and promote inclusive communities.

We have received recognition for our longstanding contributions, including the UWSVI Spirit Award for our annual fundraising campaign.
